The David Lean: Centenary Collection [Region 2]

The United Kingdom has released a PAL/Region 2 DVD that will not play on a standard US DVD player. To view it in the USA/Canada, you will need a multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player. The DVD includes special features such as Black & White, Box Set, Collectors Edition, and Interactive Menu. It also offers English language options with Dolby Digital 2.0 sound and English subtitles. The DVD set includes multiple discs, a photo gallery, remastered scenes, and scene access.

The set includes five classic films, including The Sound Barrier (1952), a story of male courage and adventure into the unknown, as well as the women who wait at home. It also features Hobson's Choice (1954), which tells the tale of the eldest daughter of an alcoholic Lancashire bootmaker, and her marriage to his boot-hand, leading to a rival business. Blithe Spirit (1945) follows a happily married author who invites a medium to supper, only to have chaos ensue when the husband's deceased first wife appears after a seance. Brief Encounter (1946) is Noel Coward's sensitive portrayal of two happily married strangers whose acquaintance deepens into affection and eventually love, testing their moral courage. Great Expectations (1946) is a stylish film presentation of Charles Dickens' story of a young man befriending an escaped convict who becomes his benefactor. Lastly, Oliver Twist (1948) follows the story of an orphaned boy raised in a workhouse, who dares to ask for more and faces the consequences.

The DVD set is part of the David Lean - Centenary Collection, featuring 10-DVDs in a box set including Brief Encounter, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Blithe Spirit, and In Which We Serve.
