Blithe Spirit DVD [Region 2]

The United Kingdom has released a PAL/Region 2 DVD of the film Blithe Spirit. Please note that this DVD will not be compatible with a standard US DVD player. In order to view it in the USA/Canada, you will need a multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player. The DVD includes the following languages: English (Mono) and English (with subtitles). It also features special options such as Black & White, an Interactive Menu, and Scene Access.

The film's synopsis revolves around a novelist played by Rex Harrison, who has recently married Constance Cummings. While conducting research for a book on spiritualism, Harrison begins to be haunted by the mischievous ghost of his first wife, Kay Hammond. The plot follows his struggle to deal with the ghost's interference in his new marriage, leading him to seek the help of local medium Madame Arcati, played by Margaret Rutherford in a hilarious performance. When Madame Arcati fails to exorcise Hammond's spirit, Harrison decides to take matters into his own hands by attempting to reunite with his deceased wife, causing unexpected consequences when his second wife is killed, leaving him with two mischievous spirits to contend with.

Blithe Spirit is known for its use of Technicolor, with the ghostly apparitions providing striking contrast to the everyday colors of Harrison's country home. The success of the film led to a transformation of the story into the Broadway musical High Spirits, with Beatrice Lillie taking on the leading role of Madame Arcati.

The film has been screened and awarded at the Oscar Academy Awards.
